Everything you need to know.

Q: What is Reel Cypher?

Dinner and a movie — the way it used to be. We buy tickets to a great film, set up dinner at a restaurant nearby, and open it up. First come, first served. Once a month. That’s it.

Q: What does the ticket include?

The screening and dinner coordination. Show up, watch, head to the restaurant, eat. Drinks are not included. The whole night is planned for you.

Q: Are you affiliated with the theater or studio?

No. We have zero affiliation with any theater, studio, or distributor. We purchase tickets at full price and make the restaurant reservation ourselves. This is just us inviting you out.

Q: How often do you do these?

We’re aiming for once a month. Different film, different restaurant, same energy.

Q: What if I can’t make this one?

Sign the Guestbook. You’ll get on our mailing list — first to hear when the next one drops. You can also vote on which film and restaurant we do next.

Q: Can I come alone?

Yes. That’s kind of the point. You’ll feel like part of the group by the time the food hits the table.

Q: How do you pick the films and restaurants?

We curate a shortlist based on what’s screening in NYC and which restaurants match the vibe. Guestbook signups get a say in what’s next.

Q: Is this a business?

No. This is an experiment. We’re not trying to commercialize this — we’re literally just trying to bring people together and see what happens. We’re doing everything ourselves right now: buying tickets, calling restaurants, building this website.

Q: How do I get my ticket?

Tickets are handed to you in person at the meetup. No email tickets — just show up at the time and place.

Q: Who’s behind it?

Brian Lee and Jaeki Cho. We've spent the last decade building community around food and culture — Righteous Eats, Flavor Thing, and a bunch of other things. In a world of delivery apps and ghost kitchens, we built a platform to support restaurants so people eat together. In an era where you can stream everything in 4K from your couch, we wanted to bring back the thing that streaming replaced: going out to the movies and then talking about it over dinner. The lost form.
